CAIRO – 1 February 2026: The Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment appointed Eng. Sherif Abdel-Rahim, Assistant Minister for Climate Policies, as Head of the Environmental Affairs Agency for a one-year term, succeeding Mr. Ali Abu Senna.
She expressed her gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Ali Abu Senna for his efforts during his tenure as Acting Head of the Environmental Affairs Agency, according to a statement issued from the Ministry of Environment on Sunday.
Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, based on a recommendation from the relevant minister, issued a decree appointing Eng. Sherif Abdel-Rahim.
Dr. Manal Awad also expressed her best wishes to Eng. Sherif Abdel Rahim in his new role, affirming her confidence in his ability to lead the Environmental Affairs Agency in the coming period, given his accumulated competence, experience, and specialized vision in environmental and climate change issues.
Engineer Sherif Abdel-Rahim possesses extensive experience in environmental protection and climate change, the statement said. He joined the Ministry of Environment in 2004 and progressed through various technical and leadership positions within the Ministry and the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), culminating in his appointment as Assistant Minister of Environment for Climate Change in 2025.
Abdel-Rahim also played a pivotal role in representing Egypt at international climate forums. He participated in numerous scientific conferences and meetings both within Egypt and abroad, most notably the COP27 Climate Conference, hosted by Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh. There, he served as Vice-Chair of the Egyptian Negotiating Team, a member of the Egyptian Presidential Team, and Co-Chair of the Technical Committee with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also led the Egyptian negotiating team at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) meetings from 2012 to 2024, which included reviewing international assessment reports (AR5 and AR6), policy briefs, and special reports. This reflects his deep expertise and active role in shaping climate policies at the regional and international level.
