CAIRO – 31 January 2026: Two people were injured on Saturday when a ground collapse occurred at a fuel station in New Cairo’s Fifth Settlement in northern Egypt, authorities said.
The victims were inside shops on the premises at the time and were transported to hospital for treatment.
Initial inspections revealed a collapse around 15 metres deep, which caused the complete destruction of two shops within the station.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident may have been triggered by excavation work at a nearby construction site.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
