CAIRO – 31 January 2026: Egypt has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), including the understanding reached to begin a phased integration process.
In a statement, Egypt expressed hope that the agreement would mark an important step toward launching a comprehensive political process that includes all Syrian components without exclusion. Cairo emphasized that such a process would contribute to supporting the unity of the Syrian state, strengthening its security and stability, and preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Egypt reaffirmed its firm position on the need to preserve Syria’s unity and support its national institutions. It also stressed the importance of ensuring sustainable security and stability for all segments of the Syrian people, protecting the rights of all citizens, reinforcing national cohesion, safeguarding Syria’s resources, and continuing efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms.
The statement underscored that these principles are fundamental to restoring stability in Syria and improving humanitarian and living conditions across the country. Egypt reiterated its categorical rejection of any external interference or aggression that undermines Syria’s unity or territorial integrity.
Egypt also affirmed its continued support for all efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting political settlement to the Syrian crisis—one that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people for security, stability, and development, and paves the way for recovery and reconstruction.
