CAIRO – 31 January 2026: In line with directives from the President of the Republic to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, held a series of intensive phone calls with Abbas Araqchi, Iranian Foreign Minister; Steve Witkoff, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East; Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Hakan Fidan, Turkish Foreign Minister; and Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Omani Foreign Minister.

 

The discussions focused on the latest regional developments amid rising tensions across the Middle East.

 

During the calls, Minister Abdelatty emphasized the urgent need to intensify efforts aimed at de-escalation and to pursue peaceful solutions through diplomacy and dialogue, in order to reduce tensions and restore calm. He stressed that there are no military solutions to the challenges facing the region and underscored the importance of preventing further instability and insecurity.

 

The Foreign Minister also highlighted the necessity of maintaining constructive engagement and continuous communication among all concerned parties. He noted that such efforts are essential to bringing the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table and achieving a peaceful, consensual settlement based on mutual respect and shared interests, thereby supporting regional security and stability.

 

The series of contacts concluded with a shared agreement to continue serious efforts toward de-escalation and to prioritize diplomatic solutions.
