CAIRO – 30 January 2026: Egyptian politician Sayed El-Badawi won the presidency of the Al-Wafd Party on Friday, securing 1,302 out of 2,614 votes.
The committee overseeing the Al-Wafd Party presidential elections, headed by Member of Parliament and legal adviser Tarek Abdel Aziz, announced El-Badawi’s victory by a narrow margin of eight votes over his rival, Dr. Hany Serry El-Din, who received 1,294 votes.
Members of the party’s General Assembly cast their ballots between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. under full judicial supervision.
Founded in 1919 by a group of national leaders, including revolutionary figure and former Egyptian Prime Minister Saad Zaghloul, the Al-Wafd Party emerged in the wake of the 1919 Revolution against British occupation. The party was established to advocate for national independence and improve the social and political conditions of Egyptians.
