Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, held a phone call on the evening of Thursday, June 26, with Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs
CAIRO- 29 January 2026: Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, received a phone call on Wednesday evening, January 28, from Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, to discuss the latest regional developments.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the call focused on regional developments and ways to de-escalate tensions across the region. Both ministers stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to contain escalation and prevent the region from descending into new waves of instability.
Minister Abdelatty emphasized the need to advance political and diplomatic solutions, highlighting the importance of creating conducive conditions for the resumption of dialogue between the United States and Iran on the Iranian nuclear issue. He underscored that such dialogue should lead to a comprehensive settlement that takes into account the interests of all parties and supports regional and international security and stability.
The spokesperson added that the call also addressed developments in Sudan. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a step toward a comprehensive ceasefire and stressed the need to launch an inclusive, Sudanese-led political process. He also highlighted the importance of establishing safe humanitarian corridors to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of aid to the Sudanese people.
The Minister reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position in support of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as the preservation of its national institutions. He further briefed his French counterpart on Egypt’s efforts within the framework of the Quartet mechanism.
