CAIRO – 27 January 2026: As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural ties between South Korea and Egypt, the Korean Cultural Center in Dokki has launched the first edition of its new monthly cultural program, “Ahlan Korea.”
The inaugural event spotlighted the coastal city of Gangneung, offering Egyptian audiences an immersive and interactive cultural experience that bridges Korea’s rich historical heritage with its contemporary lifestyle.
The event showcased the visual and cultural identity of Gangneung, a city overlooking Korea’s East Sea, renowned for the harmony between its stunning natural landscapes and its centuries-old historical legacy.
Participants were taken on a virtual journey through local folk legends and elements of Korea’s intangible cultural heritage inscribed on UNESCO lists, alongside presentations on the city’s most prominent landmarks. Gangneung is notably known for hosting ice sports competitions during the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.
The program featured a vibrant and engaging atmosphere, including a cultural quiz designed to test participants’ knowledge of the city, followed by a guided tour of an exhibition displaying traditional Korean artifacts.
Visitors were also given a unique opportunity to wear the traditional Korean costume, “Hanbok,” while taking commemorative photos. The event concluded with a tasting session featuring popular Korean dishes inspired by Gangneung’s local cuisine.
Commenting on the occasion, Oh Sung-ho, Director of the Korean Cultural Center, emphasized the strength and depth of cultural relations between the South Korea and Egypt.
He noted that such initiatives reflect the growing cooperation between the two countries across multiple fields adding that the center is preparing to roll out a series of diverse cultural programs encompassing literature and the arts, aimed at fostering dialogue and mutual understanding between the two cultures.
“Ahlan Korea” will continue a monthly program throughout 2026 in cooperation with Korean Tourism Organization, with each edition highlighting a different Korean city. The initiative aims to offer a comprehensive cultural experience that showcases Korea’s arts, traditions, and major landmarks to Egyptian audiences.
