DAVOS – 21 January 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has described the launch of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement as a pivotal step toward implementing a broader peace plan and reducing regional tensions.

He underscored Egypt’s ongoing commitment to a fair and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian cause as he attended a special dialogue session at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday.

El-Sisi said the Palestinian cause remains a top priority for the Middle East, representing a cornerstone for regional stability and a fundamental basis for achieving lasting and fair peace.

The president expressed appreciation for the efforts of US President Donald Trump, highlighting his commitment to ending hostilities in Gaza and mitigating the humanitarian suffering that has burdened the Palestinian people for more than two years.

El-Sisi recalled the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace, held on October 13, as the culmination of Egypt’s efforts, in coordination with its partners, to halt the fighting, consolidate peace, and open new avenues for hopeful regional stability.

He stressed that the summit opened new horizons, offering hope for the launch of a serious political track to resolve the Palestinian cause, guaranteeing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people while enhancing security and development across the region.

“I affirm the necessity of building on the achievements of the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit,” El-Sisi said, calling for the reinforcement of the ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza, and the rapid launch of early recovery and reconstruction efforts throughout the enclave.

He welcomed the US announcement of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, describing it as a crucial step toward implementing the peace plan, reducing regional escalation, and opening new horizons for international cooperation.

The president reaffirmed that Egypt, drawing on its historic role in supporting the Palestinian cause, will spare no effort in engaging all relevant parties to achieve a just, comprehensive, and lasting solution based on a two-state framework and international legitimacy.

This would ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, El-Sisi added.
