El-Sisi urges dialogue, peaceful settlement of conflicts as only path to stability, development

DAVOS – 21 January 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has called for dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflicts as the only viable path to achieving lasting peace, stability, and development, warning that escalating geopolitical tensions threaten global economic progress.

El-Sisi made the remarks during a special dialogue session at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday, attended by heads of state and senior international officials, including Libyan Presidential Council President Mohamed Menfi and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

El-Sisi said Egypt remains committed to building strong regional and international partnerships based on mutual benefit and cooperation, while continuing efforts to foster a business-friendly environment that empowers the private sector as a key driver of development.

However, he noted that these efforts face unprecedented challenges amid rising geopolitical conflicts and violations of international legitimacy, developments that undermine economic growth, weaken global peace and security, and limit opportunities for constructive cooperation among nations.

 

El-Sisi stressed that achieving sustainable peace and development requires adherence to several core principles, foremost among them dialogue and international cooperation, respect for international law, and commitment to the United Nations Charter.

He also emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means, avoiding escalation, and creating conditions conducive to durable political solutions.

Additionally, the president called for deeper integration and cooperation among states, prioritizing the fight against poverty and hunger and promoting shared prosperity.

He further underscored the need to strengthen the role of national, regional, and international business institutions, enabling the private sector to play a central role in advancing comprehensive and sustainable development worldwide.

El-Sisi arrived in Davos yesterday to participate in the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting 2026, which is being held from January 19 to 23, under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue.”

The forum’s agenda includes a series of events bringing together world leaders, heads of international and regional organizations, and representatives of major private-sector institutions.

Discussions focus on strengthening international cooperation, supporting global prosperity pathways, expanding the use of technology and innovation as drivers of growth, and investing in human capital.

On the sidelines of the forum, El-Sisi is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump to discuss the latest regional and international developments of mutual interest.

The two leaders are expected to explore ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between Egypt and the US, in a manner that serves the interests of both countries and supports regional and international stability.
