Egypt Welcomes Ceasefire Agreement in Syria

CAIRO – 19 January 2026: Egypt welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement and the integration of forces between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), expressing hope that the move marks a step toward a comprehensive political process.

In a statement, Egypt emphasized that such a process must include all Syrian components to preserve the unity of the state, support its security and stability, and safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Egypt reaffirmed its steadfast position on the necessity of preserving Syria's unity and supporting national state institutions. The government stated that strengthening these institutions is essential for protecting the country’s stability and safeguarding the rights and resources of the Syrian people, ultimately improving humanitarian and living conditions.

Furthermore, Egypt stressed the importance of providing sustainable security for all segments of Syrian society, ensuring the protection of citizens' rights and strengthening national cohesion.

The statement also emphasized the importance of continued efforts to confront terrorism in all forms and address the issue of foreign terrorist fighters. Egypt identified these efforts as fundamental factors in restoring stability to Syria and the region, creating the necessary conditions for recovery and reconstruction.

Egypt affirmed its ongoing support for regional and international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and sustainable political settlement to the Syrian crisis that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people for security and development.
