CAIRO – 18 January 2026: Motorists planning to travel on highways in Cairo, Sinai, or Upper Egypt this week are advised to exercise caution as fog is expected to affect visibility on several roads between 2:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) said roads leading to and from northern Egypt, extending southward to Upper Egypt, as well as Central Sinai and northern Upper Egypt, are expected to experience fog during the early morning hours, with dense fog forming on some routes.
The authority urges drivers to take all necessary precautions while driving, including using fog lights, maintaining safe distances between vehicles, and operating windshield wipers continuously.
Drivers are also advised to use their horns intermittently to alert nearby vehicles and to avoid fully closing windows, as this may lead to condensation on the windshield and further reduce visibility.
In cases where conditions worsen and visibility becomes extremely limited, motorists are advised to pull over safely to the side of the road, switch on hazard lights, and refrain from driving until conditions improve.
Regarding overall weather conditions, the EMA forecast chilly temperatures during the early morning and nighttime hours, with milder to warm weather during the daytime across most parts of Egypt.
The authority also warned of possible frost formation on crops in parts of northern Upper Egypt, Central Sinai, and the Western Desert.
On Monday, light to moderate rainfall is expected to affect parts of the northeastern coastal areas, home to North Sinai and Port Said. It is unclear whether rain could extend to Alexandria.
