CAIRO – 16 January 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a telephone call Thursday with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to reiterate Egypt’s unwavering support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Lebanon.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Abdelatty emphasized the importance of extending the Lebanese state’s authority over all its territory. He expressed support for Lebanese national institutions in their responsibility to maintain security and safeguard the interests of the Lebanese people.

During the call, Abdelatty expressed appreciation for Lebanon’s efforts to assert full authority over its land. He welcomed the announcement of the completion of the first phase of a plan to confine weapons to the state south of the Litani River, noting that the move reflects a commitment to strengthening state sovereignty and the role of legitimate institutions.

Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s rejection of any infringement on Lebanon’s sovereignty and called for the full, non-selective implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701. He stated the resolution must guarantee the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces and the cessation of all violations of Lebanese sovereignty, adding that Egypt rejects any military escalation that threatens Lebanon's unity.
