CAIRO – 29 July 2017: The Islamic state (IS) terrorist group is consistently losing ground on social media, which highly signals their imminent downfall, the fatwa monitoring observatory at Dar El Ifta stated Saturday in an official statement.

The US-led anti-ISIS international coalition spokesperson Col. Ryan Dillon stated in a press briefing on Thursday that the percentage of the interaction with the pro-ISIS content on Twitter slumped to 92% in May, compared to the same month last year.

The statement added that ISIS experiences significant losses on several fronts; both in the virtual or the real life, pointing out that since its emergence, ISIS has been long honing social media platforms as “weapons” which are similar to those they ply in real life.

Fatwa’s observatory further warned of the social media presence of the terrorist groups; given the fact that Twitter’s top users are aged between 14 and 34 and their numbers keep growing.

As many as 46 thousand pro-ISIS accounts have been created over the past years, spreading more than 1.7 violent video contents and put forth three million tweets to propagate their ideologies, the statement said.

The statement added that Twitter managed to close down an estimated more than 300 million accounts under the international institutions pressure led by Dar El Ifta.
