CAIRO - 12 January 2026: An official delegation from the British Embassy in Cairo has conducted a field visit to the Rafah land crossing Monday, accompanied by North Sinai Governor Major General Dr. Khaled Mogawer, to follow up on Egypt’s ongoing humanitarian efforts amid the current regional developments.
During the visit, the delegation received a detailed briefing on the operational mechanisms of the Rafah crossing and the regulatory procedures in place to facilitate the entry of humanitarian and relief aid into the Gaza Strip. The briefing also covered Egypt’s efforts to receive and treat wounded and injured Palestinians, who are being provided with necessary medical care at hospitals across North Sinai.
Governor Mogawer stressed that Egypt, acting under the directives of the political leadership, continues to uphold its humanitarian and historic responsibility toward the Palestinian people. He described the Rafah crossing as a vital lifeline for supporting Palestinians in Gaza, noting that all executive and security bodies in the governorate are working around the clock to ensure the smooth flow of aid, while fully adhering to security and regulatory measures.
The governor also highlighted the extensive efforts being made by North Sinai to provide logistical and medical support, alongside ongoing coordination with relevant authorities and international organisations to ensure a rapid response to urgent humanitarian needs.
For its part, the British Embassy delegation expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s role in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance, praising the level of organisation at the Rafah crossing and the strong cooperation among the various agencies involved.
The delegation affirmed the United Kingdom’s interest in closely monitoring the humanitarian situation and supporting efforts aimed at easing the suffering of civilians.
The visit concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continued coordination and international cooperation to strengthen humanitarian efforts and promote regional stability.
