CAIRO – 9 January 2026: Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates, held phone talks Thursday with U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss regional developments and current crises.

During the talks, Abdelatty conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the United Nations’ role in preserving international peace and security.

On the situation in Gaza, Abdelatty stressed the need for an Israeli withdrawal and unhindered humanitarian access. He called for early recovery and reconstruction while rejecting any actions that undermine the unity of Palestinian territories or divide Gaza from the West Bank.

The talks also addressed the conflict in Sudan. Abdelatty called for a humanitarian truce leading to a comprehensive ceasefire, respect for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the protection of civilians, including safe access for aid. He condemned grave violations against civilians in El Fasher and North Kordofan.

Regarding Yemen, the minister reiterated Egypt’s support for national unity and state institutions, urging de-escalation toward a Yemeni-led political settlement. Abdelatty also rejected Israel’s unilateral recognition of the Somaliland region, reaffirming Egypt’s support for Somalia’s sovereignty.

Guterres praised Egypt’s role in fostering regional stability and its commitment to the U.N. Charter.
