Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi receives a FIFA delegation as part of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour, 4 Jan. 2026. Presidency
CAIRO – 4 January 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said he hopes Egypt will host a FIFA World Cup in the future during a meeting with a delegation from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
The delegation was visiting Egypt as the second stop on the promotional tour for the 2026 World Cup, which is set to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada in June 2026.
The FIFA delegation included former Italian footballer and 2006 FIFA World Player of the Year Fabio Cannavaro, Manager at FIFA in Zurich Javier Ceppi and World Cup Trophy Tour Director Sebastian Ferieu.
CFO Africa and General Manager for Nigeria and North Africa at Coca‑Cola Alexandros Kavasilas and General Manager of the sponsoring company in Egypt and Sudan Hanna Haddad were also present.
On the Egyptian side, Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy and President of the Egyptian Football Association Hani Abo Rida attended the meeting.

The visit is part of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour, a historic global journey spanning 30 countries and 75 stops worldwide, carrying the original trophy.
This tour marks the 20th anniversary of the Trophy Tour organized in collaboration between FIFA and Coca-Cola as an international platform to promote the FIFA World Cup 2026.
During the meeting, El-Sisi emphasized that Egypt’s selection as the second stop reflects the country’s standing on the global sports map.
He added that the visit presents a key opportunity to boost sports tourism, promote sports culture among youth, and support Egypt’s vision to expand sports participation and enhance fan engagement in major international events.
The FIFA delegation commended Egypt’s advanced sports infrastructure and extensive experience in hosting regional and international tournaments.
El-Sisi expressed his hopes that the upcoming World Cup, the largest edition in terms of participating teams, will be highly successful.
He further wished the Egyptian national football team positive results and affirmed his aspiration for Egypt to host a FIFA World Cup in the future.
