Lloyd's List names Chief of Suez Canal Osama Rabie amongst list of 100 most influential figures in global maritime transport sector

CAIRO – 11 December 2025: Lloyd's List website announced naming Adm. Osama Rabie, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, amongst the list of the 100 most influential figures in the global maritime transport sector.

The choice of the SCA's Chairman for the seventy fifth place amongst the list for the maritime transport sector comes as an acknowledgement of his efforts in launching an extensive marketing campaign to attract shipping lines to return to navigating through the Red Sea once more, and working to regain the confidence in one of the world's most important global trade arteries.

Amongst the Lloyd's List for this year, a 100 figuers of various nationalities; actors and executive leaders in some of the most prominent international maritime entities that support maritime transport.

As per the published report on Lloyd's List platform, the SCA's efforts reflect the Egyptian State's aspiration for the rapid return of traffic after more than two years of absence due to the Red Sea crisis that negatively impacted the Suez Canal's revenues.

The Platform's report sheds the light on the SCA's strenuous efforts to expedite the return of container ships through providing incentives to ship owners, as it has issued a 15% discount to container ships of 130 thousand tons or more - that is approximately a container ship of a capacity exceeding 10 thousand TEUs - until December 31st.

The report also highlighted that the SCA has called upon marine insurance companies to lower their premiums for Red Sea voyages, aspiring to alleviate the financial burden off ship owners as a part of the efforts it exerts.

The report concluded by affirming their confidence in the continuity of the utmost efforts of Adm. Rabie and his team to ensure the return of shipping through the Suez Canal back to normal.
