CAIRO – 11 December 2025: A crocodile captured by the Ministry of Environment’s Crocodile Hunting Unit will be released into its natural habitat in Lake Nasser, the Ministry of Environment announced in a statement on Thursday.

 

The young crocodile had been reported after appearing in the Belbeis Public Drain in the Zawamel area of Sharqia Governorate, the ministry said.

 

According to Acting Minister of Environment and Minister of Local Development Manal Awad, the captured Nile crocodile measures approximately 85 centimeters in length and is estimated to be no more than two years old.

 

She noted that the necessary procedures are underway to obtain approval from the Public Prosecutor’s Office to release the crocodile back into Lake Nasser, ensuring its survival and safeguarding the surrounding ecosystem.
