CAIRO – 9 December 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held phone talks on Tuesday with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to review ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, as well as regional developments.
Abdelatty conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to US President Donald Trump, emphasizing pride in the longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries and its achievements across various sectors.
The minister stressed the importance of continuing close coordination with the US administration to support security and stability in the Middle East during the current sensitive period.
The talks also covered intensifying economic, trade, and investment cooperation and attracting additional US investments to the Egyptian market.
Key regional issues were discussed, including developments in the Gaza Strip.
Both ministers reviewed ongoing efforts to implement President Trump’s plan and consolidate the Sharm El Sheikh peace agreement.
Abdelatty highlighted the need for international efforts to ensure the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and the swift formation of an international stability force in Gaza.
He also emphasized progressing to the second phase of the agreement, establishing a technocratic committee to manage Gaza, and ensuring safe delivery of humanitarian aid amid deteriorating conditions.
Regarding Sudan, the top diplomat reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, stability, and national institutions, recalling outcomes from his recent visit to Khartoum on November 11.
He stressed the importance of coordinated international and regional efforts to advance ceasefire initiatives and facilitate humanitarian aid.
The ministers also addressed Lebanon, with Abdelatty briefing his US counterpart on his November 26 visit to Beirut, reinforcing Egypt’s support for Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, security, and stability, and efforts to reduce tensions.
On Egyptian water security, Abdelatty underscored the importance of cooperation according to international law to safeguard the interests of all Nile Basin countries, rejecting unilateral measures that violate international law in the eastern Nile Basin.
He affirmed that Egypt would take all necessary measures in line with international law to protect its water security.
The phone call touched on the Ukraine crisis, with Abdelatty emphasizing Egypt’s stance calling for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to achieve regional and international security and prevent further human suffering.
