CAIRO - 9 December 2025: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced that medical teams have screened 7,453,886 primary school students across all governorates as part of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s initiative for the early detection of anemia, obesity, and stunted growth.
The initiative, launched at the start of the academic year on October 5, 2015, continues to operate nationwide.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the ministry, confirmed that the initiative targets all Egyptian and non-Egyptian students enrolled in public and private schools. It is being implemented throughout the academic year in more than 29,000 schools, in full coordination with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education.
Detection of Malnutrition
Services provided under the initiative include measuring students’ weight and height and conducting hemoglobin tests to identify malnutrition. Immediate treatment plans are prepared for any student diagnosed with anemia, obesity, or stunted growth.
Dr. Ahmed Mustafa, Head of the General Authority for Health Insurance, stated that any student suspected of having one of the three conditions is promptly referred to health insurance clinics for further examinations and free treatment. Each student also receives a personal follow-up card to ensure continuous care across all governorates.
Presidential Initiatives
Dr. Tamer Samir, Coordinator of the Presidential Initiative, noted that more than 2,000 trained medical teams are carrying out the screenings in accordance with the latest examination protocols and infection control standards, while adhering strictly to preventive measures and avoiding overcrowding. Health education teams also provide students with daily awareness sessions on disease prevention.
