CAIRO – 6 December 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation on Friday, December 5th, with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi.

 

The call addressed bilateral cooperation between Egypt and the IAEA in the peaceful uses of atomic energy and in supporting Egypt’s national development efforts, particularly the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project, which stands as a model of effective cooperation and coordination between Egypt and the Agency.

 

During the conversation, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the vital role played by the IAEA within the verification system of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and under its Statute. He emphasized Egypt’s strong commitment to upholding the universality of the Treaty and the credibility of the NPT as a cornerstone of the global non-proliferation regime, expressing his aspiration to continue close coordination and cooperation with the Agency.

 

The discussion also covered the Iranian nuclear issue. Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions, build confidence, and create conditions conducive to sustained cooperation. He highlighted the need to seize the opportunity for diplomatic solutions and to resume dialogue aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear file, one that takes into account the interests of all parties and contributes to regional security and stability.
