Egypt welcomes Washington-brokered peace, development accords between DR Congo, Rwanda

CAIRO – 5 December 2025: Egypt welcomed on Friday the signing of the Peace and Prosperity Accords in Washington between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda.

Egypt described the accords as a landmark step toward ending tensions and strengthening security and stability in the Great Lakes region, while supporting reconciliation and enabling comprehensive development.

In a statement issued Friday, Egypt praised the constructive role that facilitated the accords and expressed appreciation for the sustained efforts led by the United States, under US President Donald Trump, alongside regional and international partners, to advance the negotiations between the two countries.

Egypt noted that the accords mark an important milestone, offering renewed hope for stability and development in the region, the statement added.

Egypt reaffirmed its full support for all initiatives aimed at consolidating security and stability in the Great Lakes region, strengthening good-neighborly relations, and ensuring the effective implementation and sustainability of the accords, according to the statement.

The statement also stressed Egypt’s readiness to cooperate with regional and international partners to promote reconstruction, foster long-term peace, and advance the prosperity of the peoples of the region.
