Abdelatty met with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and to address recent developments in the region, according to a statement by the foreign ministry. The top Egyptian diplomat expressed his hope to maintain a steady pace of high-level visits in the coming period.

He welcomed the visits of the King of Spain to Egypt in September and again this month, stressing the importance of implementing the outcomes of these visits to strengthen the strategic partnership and expand economic cooperation between the two nations.

Abdelatty also lauded bilateral collaboration across various investment sectors, underscoring the need to deepen cooperation in areas including tourism, culture, education, healthcare and migration. He highlighted the importance of joint efforts to implement the memorandum of understanding on migration between Egypt and Spain.

On developments concerning the Palestinian issue, the minister commended Spain’s stance, noting its recognition of the Palestinian state in May 2024. He emphasized the necessity of implementing the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement, consolidating the ceasefire, executing the latest UN Security Council resolution on Gaza and advancing the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s anticipation of Spain’s active participation in the upcoming international conference on Gaza’s early recovery and reconstruction, which Egypt will host.
