Cairo University ranked among theworld's best in 16 disciplines in 2025 Shanghai Ranking

CAIRO - 20 November 2025: President of Cairo University Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek announced that the university has achieved a significant milestone in the 2025 Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects and Fields (GRAS).

Sixteen disciplines were ranked among the top 59 globally, with ten of them placing first nationally, out of 500 universities worldwide included in the ranking.

Dr. Abdel-Sadek emphasized that Cairo University has successfully built the scientific foundations to position itself among the world’s leading universities, both in terms of educational programs and internationally published research. Its research consistently ranks among the most cited in specialized international journals, reinforcing the university’s status as a top global institution across multiple scientific disciplines.

He noted that this achievement reflects the university’s strength as a center of expertise, demonstrating its ability to compete with the world’s leading universities.

“This accomplishment highlights the dedicated efforts of our faculty and researchers, who work collaboratively, supported by the university’s administration,” Dr. Abdel-Sadek said. “It also reflects our encouragement for researchers across all disciplines to publish in prestigious international journals and our commitment to establishing partnerships with leading global universities. These integrated efforts have contributed to our leadership and excellence, both locally and internationally.”

Dr. Mahmoud El-Saeed, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, added that the Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects (ARWU) is among the most influential global university rankings. The ranking evaluates 59 academic disciplines across five major sectors: medicine, natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, and social sciences. Criteria include publication in high-impact journals, citation counts, international research collaboration, and recognition of faculty members through significant academic awards.

 

Among Cairo University’s disciplines:

Food Science and Technology: ranked 51–75 globally

Veterinary Science and Agricultural Sciences: ranked 101–150

Pharmaceutical Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Dentistry and Oral Sciences: ranked 151–200

Instrumental Science and Technology, Public Health, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Nursing: ranked 201–300

Clinical Medicine, Civil Engineering: ranked 301–400

Human Biological Sciences, Biological Sciences: ranked 401–500

 

The Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects relies on precise, objective criteria including research quality, scientific impact, citation rates, international collaboration, and overall research performance of universities worldwide.
