CAIRO – 20 November 2025: US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States will work with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other regional partners to bring the war in Sudan to an end.
In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump said Arab leaders from all over the world, especially Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, “have asked me to use the power and influence of the Presidency to bring an immediate halt to what is taking place in Sudan.”
Trump described Sudan as “a Great Civilization and Culture, unfortunately gone bad, but one that can be fixed with the cooperation and coordination of Countries, including those in the Region of tremendous Wealth, who want this to happen.”
The war in Sudan, ongoing since April 2023, has killed scores of civilians and plunged the African country into what the UN described as one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
Approximately half of the 50-million population in Sudan is currently facing extreme levels of hunger, according to the UN.
Figures of casualties vary but some sources estimate that over 150,000 people are estimated to have been killed since the start of the war.
The UN also estimated this month that 12 million Sudanese people have been displaced by the conflict so far.
El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur in western Sudan, has been at the center of ongoing violence and humanitarian distress over the past two years.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, which has been battling the Sudanese Armed Forces since April 2023, captured El Fasher in October after 18 months of siege, reportedly killing hundreds.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said they have received “horrendous accounts of summary executions, mass killings, rapes, attacks against humanitarian workers, looting, abductions and forced displacement” since El Fasher fell to the RSF on 23 October.
UN’s ReliefWeb reported on Wednesday that around 650,000 people have fled El Fasher since then.
“Tremendous atrocities are taking place in Sudan,” Trump said.
“It has become the most violent place on Earth and, likewise, the single biggest Humanitarian Crisis. Food, doctors, and everything else are desperately needed.”
“We will work with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and other Middle Eastern partners to get these atrocities to end, while at the same time stabilizing Sudan.”
