CAIRO – 19 November 2025: Egypt today commemorates the nation’s fallen diplomats, recalling a record spanning more than half a century, during which they have set enduring examples of sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pays tribute to the fallen diplomats in Somalia, Yugoslavia, Thailand, Mexico, Kenya, Iraq and Sudan as well as the diplomats and other personnel who lost their lives during the bombing of the Egyptian Embassy in Pakistan 30 years ago.
“Today, November 19, coincides with the anniversary of the 1995 bombing of the Egyptian Embassy in Islamabad. We remember the heroism of those who carried out their duties to the very moment of their martyrdom,” the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry hailed them as “an enduring symbol of loyalty to the nation and a testament to the resolve in defending the principles and values of the homeland.”
Over the decades, many Egyptian diplomats have given their lives while representing the country abroad.
Among those remembered are Minister Plenipotentiary Kamal El-Din Salah (Somalia, 1957), Administrative Attaché Mohamed Darwish Mohamed (Yugoslavia, 1960), and Third Secretary Sherif Mohamed Fahmy (Thailand, 1976).
During the embassy attack in Islamabad, Egypt lost Second Secretary Ahmed Namir, Counselor Hisham Abu El-Wafa, and security personnel Hussein Mohamed Fahmy Abdel-Maqsoud, Ayman Mohamed Ali, and Mahmoud Mohamed Abdel-Maqsoud.
Egypt also remembers Second Secretary Mohamed Ismail El-Sayed (Mexico, 1998), Ambassador Ihab El-Sherif (Iraq, 2005), security staff member Khaled Abdel-Azim Sharaf (Kenya, 2010), and Assistant Administrative Attaché Mohamed El-Gharawy (Sudan, 2024).
“Their lasting memory remains present, inspiring the continuation of our service to Egypt and its people, and preserving the mission they laid down with their noble blood,” the ministry stated.
