CAIRO – 10 November 2025: Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs, received Ms. Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya.

The meeting came within the framework of continued close coordination and consultation between Egypt and the United Nations regarding the latest developments in Libya and efforts to advance a comprehensive political settlement to the crisis.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm and consistent position on the Libyan crisis, which is based on supporting a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political solution, free from external interference or imposition, as the only path toward restoring security and stability in the country.

Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s full support for the efforts of the UN Special Representative to implement the UN roadmap, praising her role in this regard and underscoring the importance of advancing its key pillars—foremost among them, the formation of a unified government mandated to prepare for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible. He stressed the necessity of adhering to the agreed timeframe to preserve the credibility of the political process and to meet the Libyan people's aspirations for stability and development.

The Minister highlighted Egypt’s ongoing intensive engagement with various Libyan parties to support national dialogue and encourage serious participation in the political process in a manner that safeguards Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He also emphasized the urgent need for the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries from Libyan territory, without exception or delay, in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, describing this as a fundamental prerequisite for achieving lasting stability.

Minister Abdelatty further stressed the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach to addressing the Libyan crisis—one that integrates political, economic, security, and social dimensions and tackles the root causes of instability. Such an approach, he affirmed, is essential to achieving sustainable peace and stability in Libya and the wider region.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of Egypt’s continued, full support for international and regional efforts aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis, restoring security and stability, and strengthening Libyan national institutions so they can effectively fulfill their responsibilities and realize the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, development, and prosperity.
