WASHINGTON - 8 November 2025: US intelligence gathered last year indicated that Israel’s own military lawyers had warned there was evidence that could support war crimes charges over its operations in Gaza, Reuters reported on Friday, citing former US officials as saying.

Two of the officials said the intelligence was largely kept internal until late in Joe Biden’s term, ahead of a December 2024 congressional briefing.

It reinforces evidence that Israel has deliberately targeted civilians and humanitarian workers, allegations Israel denies.

Gaza health authorities report over 69,000 Palestinians killed in the two-year war.

A US finding of war crimes would have required stopping arms transfers and halting intelligence sharing with Israel. Meanwhile, the unrelenting Israeli war had continued to rely heavily on US weapons.

Israel already faces an ongoing genocide case filed by South Africa at the International Court of Justice in December 2023.

In September this year, the United Nations’ commission of inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
