CAIRO – 2 November 2025: Egypt has emphasized its steadfast support for Lebanon in the face of repeated Israeli attacks, renewing calls for a cessation of aggression on Lebanese territory.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty reiterated this position in a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in Cairo on Sunday.

Despite a ceasefire agreed with Hezbollah late last year to end cross-border hostilities and Israeli ground incursions in the Arab nation, Israel has continued near-daily raids on southern Lebanon.

Israeli attacks since then have killed dozens of civilians since then, according to UN estimates, despite claims that the attacks target Hezbollah members.

An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Saturday killed at least four people and injured three.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened to step up the military attacks in southern Lebanon.

“Maximum enforcement will continue and even intensify,” Katz said in a statement. “We will not allow any threat to the residents of the north (of Israel).”

On Friday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun accused Israel of escalating its strikes in response to his call for negotiations to ensure the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon in line with the ceasefire agreement.

During the meeting, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, national unity, and the extension of state authority over all its lands.

He also emphasized Egypt’s backing of Lebanese national institutions, enabling them to fully assume their responsibilities in maintaining stability and safeguarding the country’s security.

The foreign minister stressed the urgent need for full and impartial implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the cessation of Israeli aggressions on Lebanese territory.

Adopted unanimously in 2006, resolution 1701 aims to end hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel based on a permanent ceasefire and the creation of a buffer zone.
