Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi meets with DR Congo’s President Félix Tshisekedi in Cairo, 31 Oct. 2025 - Presidency
CAIRO – 31 October 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the DR Congo’s President Félix Tshisekedi reaffirmed their countries’ shared vision on cooperation among Nile Basin states as they met in Cairo on Friday.
The two leaders stressed that the principle of collective agreement among countries sharing transboundary rivers is essential to ensuring mutual benefit, without hindering development or the aspirations of the African peoples, the Egyptian Presidency said.
El-Sisi underlined Egypt’s sincere commitment to the success of the Nile Basin Initiative, describing it as a unifying platform capable of achieving the interests of all member states, away from intransigence or politically motivated unilateral actions.
Supporting DR Congo’s Sovereignty
Meanwhile, El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the sovereignty, unity, stability and territorial integrity of the DR Congo.
He emphasized Egypt’s continued backing of the peace agreement between the DR Congo and Rwanda, supported by the United States, as well as the Doha track between the Congolese government and the M23 movement.
The two presidents discussed the latest developments of the Washington and Doha tracks and ways to enhance Egypt’s support for their implementation while addressing potential challenges.
El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s readiness to exert all necessary efforts and good offices to help bridge differences and advance the settlement of the crisis in the DR Congo, drawing on Egypt’s longstanding and distinguished relations with these nations.
Tshisekedi expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s ongoing efforts in this regard.
The two leaders agreed to maintain close coordination on issues of mutual concern, with El-Sisi affirming Egypt’s readiness to provide all forms of support to the DR Congo.
El-Sisi underlined that Egypt’s foreign policy is grounded in principles, values, and respect for international law.
He added that Egypt neither conspires nor threatens or uses force to serve its interests, but rather seeks to promote stability and peace in friendly nations for the benefit of their peoples.

Attending GEM Opening
Tshisekedi will attend the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on Saturday in a grand celebration set to be attended by world leaders and other high-level dignitaries from around the globe.
El-Sisi affirmed that the participation of Tshisekedi in the inauguration of GEM reflects the deep historic and fraternal relations between Egypt and the DR Congo.
The Egyptian president also voiced his anticipation of hosting Tshisekedi again for an upcoming bilateral visit aimed at deepening cooperation and reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all support to help the DR Congo in the face of economic challenges.
