CAIRO – 31 October 2025: A few hours before the start of the largest cultural event of the 21st century, Cairo is preparing to welcome kings, leaders, politicians, and celebrities from around the world to attend the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum [GEM], expected Saturday.
A security source revealed that Interior Minister Major General Mahmoud Tawfik held a series of meetings with his aides to develop and review a comprehensive security plan to secure the opening ceremonies.
The source explained that the plan was prepared using a comprehensive simulation model to train all participating personnel to execute their tasks with precision and professionalism, ensuring the event's success and reflecting Egypt's civilized image to its guests and the world.
The source indicated that the security plan includes securing the museum's perimeter at Al-Rimaia Square and the roads leading to it from all directions, as well as the accommodations and transportation routes of the participating delegations, and the locations of the international media outlets that will be covering the event.
The plan also included intensifying security deployments around the museum and its main entrances, as well as along vital roads and thoroughfares such as the Ring Road, Al-Haram and King Faisal Streets, and the Fayoum Road, in addition to the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, which sees the movement of delegations arriving via Sphinx International Airport.
Highly trained female police officers will be participating in securing foreign delegations and VIPs attending the ceremony. They are also present within the rapid intervention units deployed around the venue and in other security services, reflecting a modern image of Egyptian women in security work.
