CAIRO – 30 October 2025:  UN Assistant Secretary-General Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee stated that it is time to take the first step toward lasting peace for the Sudanese people.

During a Security Council session on Sudan, the assistant urged all parties to take immediate action to prevent further violence and atrocities in Sudan, return to negotiations, and work towards a sustainable resolution of the conflict.

Pobee emphasized the urgent need to end the fighting immediately and begin ongoing dialogue to prevent Sudan from descending into further fragmentation.

She also called for an end to foreign intervention in the Sudanese conflict, noting that such interventions allow the violence to persist.

The assistant warned of the lack of safe spaces for civilians in El Fasher, North Darfur, and reported that the UN had received reports of atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces in Bara, North Kordofan.
