CAIRO – 27 October 2025: Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment; Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; and Major General Moheb Habashi Khalil, Governor of Port Said, witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement in the field of biogas production between the Bioenergy Foundation for Sustainable Development, affiliated with the Ministry of Environment, and the Italian company Eni.
The agreement aims to prepare a comprehensive feasibility study for the establishment of biogas production units using animal and agricultural waste. This initiative forms part of joint efforts to promote the transition to clean energy and advance sustainable development goals.
Dr. Manal Awad highlighted that the agreement represents the culmination of the Bioenergy Foundation’s efforts to expand partnerships with the private sector and international institutions, supporting the dissemination of biogas technology across Egypt. She emphasized that these efforts aim to identify innovative and sustainable energy solutions that reduce emissions and contribute to achieving the country’s sustainable development objectives.
The Bioenergy Foundation for Sustainable Development is a non-profit entity established in 2015 in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) by Cabinet decision. Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Solidarity and in accordance with Law No. 149 of 2019, the foundation promotes bioenergy technologies in Egypt through technical support and pilot projects implemented in collaboration with local and international organizations.
