CAIRO – 27 October 2025: Egypt welcomed the agreement reached between Thailand and Cambodia on a ceasefire, under U.S. auspices, on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Egypt affirmed the importance of this step as part of efforts to promote regional security, stability, and cooperation, and values the sincere efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump to reach an agreement to resolve the conflict through peaceful means, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Monday.
Egypt also stressed the need to resort to diplomatic solutions and constructive dialogue to settle disputes, and reiterates its support for all initiatives and efforts aimed at resolving conflicts through peaceful means, the statement added.
The old border conflict between the two Asian kingdoms re-broke out on July 24, 2025 after a barrage of rocket was launched by Cambodia on the neighboring country Thailand. Relations between the two neighboring Southeast Asian countries have deteriorated sharply since May, when a Cambodian soldier was killed in an armed clash over another small strip of land claimed by both nations.
