Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, European Council President Antonio Costa, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attend the first EU-Egypt Summit in Brussels - Egyptian Presidency
CAIRO – 23 October 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said the first-ever Egypt–EU Summit held in Brussels on Wednesday should serve as a genuine starting point for enhanced coordination, closer cooperation, and a strengthened strategic partnership with the European Union.
He expressed his aspiration for this partnership, in its broadest sense, to serve as a model for cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
Sisi made the remarks as he took part in a working dinner held in his honor on the sidelines of the summit.
António Costa, President of the European Council, hosted the dinner in the presence of the heads of state and government of France, Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Estonia, Poland, Denmark, Lithuania, Cyprus, Romania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Croatia, Ireland, Bulgaria, Austria, and Finland, as well as the president of the European Commission.
Sisi highlighted the dinner as a unique opportunity for consultation to further develop Egypt-EU bilateral relations and discussions on various regional and international issues of mutual concern.
He stressed that the current delicate global circumstances call upon them to strengthen the bridges of understanding and cooperation, in pursuit of a more stable and prosperous future for their peoples, their regions, and their shared neighborhood.
“I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm Egypt’s strong commitment to working together with the European Union to deepen the comprehensive and strategic partnership between our two sides,” the president said.
He added that Egypt views this partnership as “not limited to our cooperation with the EU institutions, but extends to encompass our bilateral relations with all EU member states, in a way that serves the interests of both the Egyptian and European peoples alike.”
During the EU-Egypt Summit, Sisi said he underscored Egypt’s aspiration for this gathering to mark a genuine starting point for enhanced coordination, cooperation, and a strengthened strategic partnership with the EU, in the broad sense of setting a model for cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
