CAIRO – 19 October 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced on Sunday that Egypt will host the planned international conference for the reconstruction of Gaza in November.

He affirmed that such hosting emphasizes solidarity, responsibility, and love toward the Palestinian people.

Moreover, he tasked the prime minister with coordinating with civil society organizations and state agencies to study the creation of a national mechanism for collecting citizens’ contributions and donations to fund Gaza’s reconstruction.

The president made the remarks as he delivered a speech to mark the 52nd anniversary of the October War during an annual Armed Forces’ symposium.

Sisi emphasized that the reconstruction process will require enormous costs, and that Egypt will be at the forefront of countries supporting its brothers in Gaza.

“To those who said we must stand with our brothers and fight, I would like to say that the whole world is supposed to come together to help rebuild Gaza. But Egypt, even before the world moves, is ready to contribute now to the reconstruction of the Strip."

The president noted that Gaza has been almost entirely destroyed, with more than 200,000 buildings, including homes, schools, and hospitals damaged, in addition to widespread destruction of water, sewage, electricity networks, and overall infrastructure.

The war in Gaza, currently paused under a ceasefire endorsed by world leaders, has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians over the past two years and destroyed or damaged homes, essential health facilities, and basic infrastructure.

Up to 84% of Gaza has been destroyed, with some areas in the enclave, including in Gaza City, reaching 92%, according to UNDP representative Jaco Cilliers last week.

Egypt has put forward a $53 billion reconstruction and early recovery plan for Gaza, which was endorsed last March by Arab and Muslim nations as well as much of the international community.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said this month that Berlin wants to co-host the Gaza reconstruction conference alongside Egypt.

Halting Gaza War

The president highlighted during the symposium Egypt’s intensive efforts over the past two years to halt the war in Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid, and secure the release of captives and prisoners.

These efforts culminated in the achievement of a ceasefire agreement and the holding of the Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Sisi expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his support to efforts of halting the war.

The president cited the 1973 war between Egypt and Israel and the recent cessation of hostilities in Gaza as major milestones in October.

He also highlighted the election of Egypt’s Khaled Al-Anani as UNESCO Director-General and Egypt’s membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council, expressing hope that Egypt will secure the position of head of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
