CAIRO- 17 October 2025: Upon the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, met on Friday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an official visit to New Delhi.
According to Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdelatty conveyed President El-Sisi’s greetings and delivered a written message addressing ways to further develop bilateral relations and strengthen the strategic partnership between Egypt and India.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s pride in the growing ties between the two countries, marked by high-level visits and the elevation of relations to a strategic partnership. He conveyed appreciation for Prime Minister Modi’s efforts in deepening this relationship, notably recognized through his recent conferment of the Order of the Nile by President El-Sisi.
Minister Abdelatty voiced his aspiration to convene the eighth session of the Egyptian-Indian Joint Committee in Cairo in the first half of 2026, aiming to expand cooperation across various sectors.
He also praised the launch of the first round of the Egypt-India strategic dialogue and affirmed the commitment to holding future sessions regularly on a rotational basis. He highlighted the importance of using this mechanism to bolster collaboration, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, and investment.
The Minister underlined Egypt’s ambition to increase bilateral trade volume to $12 billion over the next five years. He reviewed recent economic reforms undertaken by the Egyptian government—such as monetary policy adjustments and a flexible exchange rate system—which have improved Egypt’s economic outlook, raised its credit rating, and enhanced the overall investment climate.
He further called for the formation of a bilateral business council and the establishment of an Egyptian-Indian Chamber of Commerce. He also proposed hosting a business forum during the upcoming visit of the Indian Minister to Egypt in early 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to boost economic ties.
The meeting also addressed cooperation in connectivity and international trade corridors, considering Egypt’s strategic infrastructure linking the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, and the central role of the Suez Canal.
Minister Abdelatty congratulated India on its upcoming presidency of the BRICS group in 2026 and expressed Egypt’s eagerness to deepen cooperation with BRICS countries in economic, financial, and monetary areas to support shared development goals.
On regional developments, the Minister briefed the Indian Prime Minister on the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit held on October 13 and Egypt’s efforts—alongside the U.S. and regional partners—to implement a Gaza ceasefire. He stressed the importance of ensuring both parties adhere to the agreement to maintain stability in the region. The discussion also covered Egypt’s stance on security and governance in Gaza, humanitarian aid access, and the Early Recovery and Reconstruction Conference Egypt plans to host in November.
For his part, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his greetings to President El-Sisi and affirmed India’s deep appreciation for its strategic partnership with Egypt. He commended Egypt’s constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East and praised the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit and the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
