CAIRO – 10 October 2025: Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, announced on Friday that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is expected to be invited to the signing ceremony for the Gaza peace agreement, scheduled to take place in Cairo next Monday.
"On Monday, the major official ceremony for signing the agreement will be held, and I believe our Prime Minister will also be invited, as the Egyptian Foreign Minister informed me yesterday," Tajani told the official Italian news channel Rai.
According to the Italian news agency ANSA, Meloni maintains a friendly relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, whose peace plan for Gaza ultimately led to the ceasefire. Meloni was notably the only European leader invited to attend his inauguration ceremony in January.
Confirming the details, Tajani reiterated: "The great official signing ceremony for the agreement will take place in Cairo on Monday, and our Prime Minister will be invited, as Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati told me yesterday."
Meloni had previously described the ceasefire as "historic" on Thursday, stating: "We must commend the exceptional work of President Trump, and we must also thank the mediators... It was an invaluable collective effort."
