Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call on Wednesday with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune
CAIRO – 8 October 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called for capitalizing on the momentum generated by the US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza and recent international recognitions of the State of Palestine to launch a peaceful political process leading to a two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy.
Sisi made the remarks as he briefed Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during a phone call on Egypt’s efforts to end the war in Gaza and implement Trump’s plan.
The Egyptian leader discussed the ongoing negotiations hosted by Egypt in Sharm El-Sheikh between Hamas and the Israeli side, with the participation of Qatar and the United States.
Egypt has been hosting intensive talks between high-level delegations from Hamas and Israel since Monday, aimed at ending the war in Gaza within the framework of the recent peace plan proposed by Trump.
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff have joined the talks on Wednesday.
Head of the General Intelligence Services Major General Hassan Rashad and his Turkish counterpart, Ibrahim Kalin, will be part of the talks, alongside Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s top aide, Ron Dermer, will join as well.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of a new class at the Police Academy on Wednesday, Sisi called for all visiting delegations to "seize this opportunity" to reach a deal.
He underscored Egypt's dedication to ensure that the current round of talks brings an end to the war.
Sisi extended an invitation to Trump to visit Egypt to attend the signing ceremony of a potential agreement to end the war in Gaza, should negotiations succeed.
The president stated at the ceremony that he received “very encouraging” reports regarding the ongoing talks.
During the phone call with Sisi, Algerian President Tebboune praised Egypt’s efforts to stop the war, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and reject the displacement of Gaza’s residents.
Tebboune affirmed Algeria’s full support for these endeavors aimed at ending the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The two presidents also discussed preparations for the upcoming session of the Egyptian-Algerian Joint Higher Committee, set to convene in Cairo next month, and exchanged congratulations on the 52nd anniversary of Egypt’s October 6 victories.
Sisi underscored that Egypt’s leadership and people will never forget the contributions of the Algerian Armed Forces during this war, which reflect Algeria’s enduring Arab solidarity and unwavering commitment to Arab causes.
