CAIRO – 8 October 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended an invitation to US President Donald Trump to visit Egypt to attend the signing ceremony of a potential agreement to end the war in Gaza, should negotiations succeed.
Sisi's remarks come while Egypt has been hosting intensive talks between high-level delegations from Hamas and Israel since Monday, aimed at ending the war in Gaza within the framework of a peace plan proposed by Trump.
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff have joined the talks on Wednesday.
Head of the General Intelligence Services Major General Hassan Rashad and his Turkish counterpart, Ibrahim Kalin, will be part of the talks, alongside Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of a new class at the Police Academy on Wednesday, Sisi expressed deep respect and appreciation for Trump’s “genuine determination to end the war during the current round of negotiations.”
Addressing Trump directly, Sisi added: “It would be truly wonderful if, should an agreement be reached, you could attend its signing.”
“I invite President Trump, in the event of reaching an agreement, to be present for the signing of this accord in Egypt.”
Sisi underscored that negotiations to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of captives are ongoing in the Red Sea city of Sharm El-Sheikh in the presence of delegations from Egypt, Qatar, Israel, Hamas and the United States, including “very important envoys” sent by Trump.
The president stated that he received “very encouraging” reports regarding the ongoing talks.
He made an announcement “to the Egyptians, the region, and the world” that those US senior envoys have come with “strong will, a clear message, and a firm mandate to end the war during this round of negotiations.”
Sisi thanked Trump’s support to the talks by sending the envoys.
“I value all that he is doing and say to him: continue your support and your will to end the war.”
The president expressed his hope that the talks will succeed in reaching an agreement to end the war, secure the release of all captives, facilitate the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and enable the reconstruction of the enclave.
He called for all visiting delegations to "seize this opportunity," underscoring Egypt's dedication to ensure that the current round of negotiations brings an end to the war.
Sisi underscored that the whole world is deeply concerned with ending this crisis, delivering aid, releasing captives, and rebuilding Gaza.
He emphasized that ending the war is crucial to realizing the aspirations of the Palestinian people for an independent state.
“The two-state solution will have a far greater chance if the war ends as soon as possible and reconstruction begins in favor of the people of Gaza so they can live on their land, and also for the Palestinian people in the West Bank.”
Sisi stressed that Egypt’s efforts have not stopped over the past two years to end this “very harsh war” in Gaza and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the Palestinian cause.
During the ceremony, the president also send a message of reassurance to the Egyptian people, reiterating that “no one can harm Egypt.”
Since the start of the war in October 2023, Israeli forces have killed 67,173 Palestinians and injured nearly 170,000 more in the enclave, according to the enclave's health ministry, with Tel Aviv facing allegations of committing a genocide, as per a UN report released in September.
The war has plunged the enclave into a widespread famine confirmed by the UN. The ministry has reported 460 deaths due to famine and acute malnutrition to date, including 154 children.
Meanwhile, the war is facing a crucial turning point as Hamas and Israel have approved a plan proposed by Trump for peace in Gaza.
The two sides are working to finalize an agreement regarding the criteria of the release of Israeli captives, both living and dead, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, and the end of the war.
