CAIRO – 6 October 2025: The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced the release of 2,735 inmates who were granted a presidential pardon on the occasion of the anniversary of the October 6 Victory.
Specialized committees within the Community Protection Sector of the Ministry of Interior reviewed the files of inmates across correctional and rehabilitation centers nationwide. Their objective was to identify those who met the legal criteria and conditions for pardon and were eligible for release.
In a parallel move, Attorney General Counselor Mohamed Shawky directed all public prosecution offices to periodically review the legal status of individuals held in pretrial detention. Following this directive, the First Attorney General of the Supreme State Security Prosecution ordered the release of 38 defendants on bail today, October 6, 2025, pending ongoing investigations.
These decisions reflect the Public Prosecution's commitment to upholding justice—not only by holding offenders accountable but also by supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of released individuals. The initiative underscores the state’s broader approach to promoting human rights, individual freedoms, and social inclusion.
