Egypt forms media development committee with veteran media figures, top UMS officials

CAIRO – 5 October 2025: Egypt has formed a high-level committee to draw up a comprehensive roadmap for the development of the country’s media sector as per President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives.

The Media Development Committee will be chaired by Head of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation Khaled Abdel Aziz with Head of the National Media Authority (NMA) Ahmed Al-Moslemani, and head of the National Press Authority (NPA) Abdel Sadek El-Shorbagy as members.

The committee will bring together senior officials from the United Media Services (UMS), including chairman Tarek Nour.

Other UMS officials in the board include advertising director Zaki Abdel Hamid, head of TV channels sector Samir Youssef, Chairwoman of WATCH IT platform Nashwa Gad, editor-in-chief of digital media Khalil Al-Awamy, and head of news sector Samir Omar.

Veteran journalists form a major part of the committee, including Magdy El-Gallad, Editor-in-Chief of digital platforms ONA, Masrawy, Consulto, Yalla Kora, and Shift; and Khaled Salah, founder an former editor-in-chief of Youm7 news website.

Head of the Egyptian Journalists' Syndicate Khaled El-Balshy and Head of the Egyptian Media Syndicate Tarek Saada are also part of the committee, alongside several heads of iconic media channels, prominent TV presenters, academics, writers, and retired diplomats.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued directives on Sunday for the formation of the committee.

The committee is tasked with preparing an integrated roadmap that clearly defines development goals, identifies challenges, and sets out responsibilities for implementation across Egypt’s media landscape.

The move follows directives by President Sisi to modernize the national media system and align it with global transformations, ensuring that Egyptian media can effectively fulfill its role in informing the public and strengthening national identity.
