Trump announces US plan for ceasefire in Gaza, gives Hamas 72 hours to release all hostages

CAIRO – 29 September 2025: U.S. President Donald Trump announced details of a U.S.-proposed plan to end the Israeli war on the besieged Gaza Strip, giving the Hamas movement a 72-hour deadline to release all Israeli captives, contingent on Hamas’s acceptance of the plan.

In a joint Press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on the US 20-point plan for Gaza on Monday at the White House, President Trump said that several Arab and Muslim leaders, including those from Egypt, supported his plan for Gaza.

He added that if Hamas rejected the proposal, Israeli Prime Minister will get the US full support to do what should be done.

Additionally, he said that Arab and Muslim countries will commit to demilitarizing Hamas and assisting in training local police forces in the Strip.

The US President also announced that a board of peace will be established to form a transitional government of Palestinian people, without Hamas. He added that he will personally chair the Board of Peace, in collaboration with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

As for the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza, U.S. President Trump said that Israeli forces will withdraw from Gaza in phases. 

Regarding the US-backed Abraham Accords, he also said that he has negotiated to expand the scope of the Abraham Accords, and that the agreement could include Iran. 

In his comment during the press conference, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that the international body governing Gaza will permanently end the war with the Strip, adding that If Hamas rejects the U.S. plan, we will finish the job ourselves.

He added that all goals of the U.S. plan must be achieved, including ending Hamas’s presence in Gaza.

In response to the international recognition of the Palestinian state, Netanyahu said that recognizing a Palestinian state poses a threat to Israel’s existence.

 He continued that Israel appreciates Trump’s position that the Palestinian Authority will have no role in Gaza before a number of conditions are met. He said that the Palestinian Authority must stop incitement against Israel and its efforts in international courts.

Regarding the Abraham Accords, Israeli Prime Minister said that with Trump’s help, we can expand the Abraham Accords.

Netanyahu apologizes to Qatar

At the conference, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he had held a phone call with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Prior to the joint press conference, Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Al Thani participated in a tripartite call, during which Netanyahu apologized to Qatar for an attack on Doha that resulted in the death of a Qatari serviceman.

However, according to a statement released by the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Al Thani affirmed that his country unequivocally rejects any infringement on its sovereignty under any circumstances, stressing that the protection of Qatari citizens and residents remains a top priority.
