CAIRO – 26 September 2025: The White House is reported to support a proposal for former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to head a temporary administration in the Gaza Strip, according to multiple Israeli media reports.

Under the proposed arrangement, Blair would lead a supervisory body, called the Gaza International Transitional Authority (GITA), serving as the “supreme political and legal authority” in Gaza for up to five years, the Independent reported.

The plan is understood to exclude the Palestinian Authority (PA) from governance during this period, though it envisions “the eventual unification of all Palestinian territory under the PA.”

Israeli media reports suggest that an international force would be deployed along Gaza’s borders to prevent Hamas from regrouping.

A source cited by Haaretz said the plan is taking shape and has US President Donald Trump’s full backing, while Israeli officials have yet to reject it.

No timetable has been set for the PA’s return to power, according to the reports.

The plan comes while the US has announced a "21-point plan" for peace in Gaza after Trump met with several Arab and Muslim leaders on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) on Tuesday.

Tony Blair, who served as the British Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007, remains a controversial figure largely due to his decision to support and participate in the 2003 invasion of Iraq alongside the United States.

The invasion, justified at the time by claims that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, was later widely discredited when such weapons were never found.
