CAIRO - 24 September 2025: Foreign Minster Badr Abdel Aty called for the activation of the Peace Fund to finance peace operations while at the African Peace and Security Council session on Wednesday.

In his speech at the UN, Abdel Aty praised the role of the African Union in promoting stability and conflict resolution, emphasizing that achieving sustainable peace and development requires political will and support during political transitions.

He highlighted the importance of sustainable funding for peace support operations to ensure their effectiveness in contributions assessed under the UN budget in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2719.

He emphasized the close link between security and development, highlighting Egypt's role in post-conflict reconstruction and development, and its readiness to leverage its expertise in capacity building and reconstruction for countries emerging from conflict. This goes in line with the programs of the African Union Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, hosted by Egypt.

He urged support for Sudan to preserve its unity, territorial integrity, and institutions. He also highlighted the ongoing arrangements for the deployment of police and military personnel to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUMSOM), in parallel with continued mobilization of support to secure sustainable funding for the mission.

He welcomed efforts aimed at ending the division in Libya, including the UN roadmap, emphasizing that the solution must be purely Libyan and based on the Skhirat Agreement.

Abdel Aaty also warned of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the risks it poses to international peace and security, underscoring Egypt's pivotal role in mediating and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid. He called on African countries to continue rejecting any attempts to displace Palestinians from their lands, an act of ethnic cleansing in the context of genocide.

The Foreign Minister concluded by affirming Egypt's unwavering commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and prosperity of the African continent, and working with all sister African nations to achieve peace and sustainable development.
