Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly participated in the high-level meeting commemorating the 80th anniversary of the United Nations
CAIRO – 22 September 2025: On behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly participated in the high-level meeting commemorating the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, held at the UN General Assembly Hall in New York, USA.
Prime Minister Madbouly was accompanied by Ambassador Osama Abdel Khalek, Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
During the meeting, Ms. Annalena Baerbock, President of the United Nations General Assembly, delivered a speech in which she reflected on the foundational principles of the UN, its Charter established following World War II, and the shared aspiration for a peaceful world. She underscored the global challenges currently facing humanity, which form the basis of this year’s theme: “Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also addressed the Assembly, reaffirming the core goals and principles of the United Nations, particularly its mission to promote peace, ensure security, and protect civilians. He warned that these principles are under threat today, citing, among other issues, the ongoing crisis in Gaza and the escalating impacts of climate change.
Guterres stressed that such challenges are likely to persist, emphasizing the need for global unity, the very spirit upon which the UN was founded, to address and overcome them.
Several former heads of state and government leaders, including representatives from Liberia and Norway, also delivered remarks highlighting the enduring values of the United Nations and the urgent need to uphold them amid current global challenges.
The commemoration saw broad participation from heads of state, government officials, and UN representatives. It served as a vital platform to reflect on the UN’s achievements over the past eight decades, discuss necessary reforms, and enhance the organization's capacity to confront today’s pressing international issues.
The event also reaffirmed the UN’s central role in advancing sustainable development, safeguarding human rights, and ensuring effective global governance for the benefit of both present and future generations.
