CAIRO - 22 September 2025: The House of Representatives’ Legislative Committee will urgently examine President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s objections to the draft Criminal Procedure Code, Member of Parliament Ehab Ramzy said Sunday.

Sisi's objection to the draft law arrived at the House of Representatives “unexpectedly,” Ramzy  told Sada el-Balad channel.

The first parliamentary session on October 1 will discuss the amendments as soon as they are received, he highlighted.

The President wishes more guarantees, rights, and freedoms to citizens, and to expand alternatives to pretrial detention, the MP explained.

The law in its current terms is insufficient to provide safeguards for citizens and defendants, Ramzy said of the President’s objections.

The amendments may continue into the next parliament's term to ensure the passage of a balanced law that guarantees the highest levels of security and freedom, he added.

If the House finds that the law does not require any amendments to any of its articles, it will be adopted and enforced, he continued.
