CAIRO – 21 September 2025: Celebrating the World Beach Cleanup Day, which falls on September 20, Egypt has launched a cleanup campaign along the shores of the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.
The Environment Affairs Agency’s branch in Alexandria launched this campaign to clean four main beaches in Stanley, Anfoushi, Challenge Beach, and Dakhila, with the participation of 100 volunteers from the Youth love Egypt foundation, Rotaract Youth Club, and several civil society organizations, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Environment on Sunday.
Acting Environment Minister Manal Awad said in the statement that these events coincide with similar activities in 190 countries around the globe, with the participation of 30,000 volunteers, which has been celebrated annually since 2008.
Over the past 5 year, Egypt has launched 65 cleanup campaigns for shores in Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh cities on the Mediterranean Sea, including 25 cleanup activities during this Summer, the minister added. She noted that these campaigns aim at raising public awareness of the problem and the dangers of the marine waste, especially the single-use plastic waste and its impact on the marine ecosystem.
