CAIRO – 20 September 2025: Cairo International Airport experienced only minor delays on Saturday from Europe, Egyptian aviation authorities confirmed, following a cyberattack on a check-in systems provider that disrupted operations at several major European airports.
Flights operated by Egyptian airlines remained unaffected, while a limited number of inbound flights from Europe experienced slight delays upon arrival, according to a statement by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The ministry noted that the affected flights came from a group of airports impacted by the disruption, including Heathrow and Luton Airports in the UK, Brussels Airport, and Berlin Airport.
Additionally, several foreign-operated flights arriving at Hurghada and Sphinx Airports faced minor scheduling disruptions, the ministry said.
The cyberattack targeted a third-party service provider used by multiple European airports to manage passenger check-in and boarding systems, causing operational delays.
Egyptian airlines’ flights were not affected by the cyberattack, and the ministry confirmed that a central operations room continues to monitor developments in close coordination with international partners.
Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh Al-Hefny ordered elevate operational readiness at all Egyptian airports. He emphasized the need to maintain the highest standards of safety, technical preparedness, and flight regularity.
The ministry advises passengers flying with foreign carriers to verify the latest updates regarding their flight schedules.
The cyberattack led to disruptions at several major airports, including Heathrow Airport, Europe’s busiest international hub, as well as Brussels and Berlin, besides the two largest airports in Ireland: Dublin and Cork.
As of now, no information has been released regarding the identity of those responsible for the attack.
