CAIRO - 20 September 2025: The Qasr El-Nile Court's prosecutor decided to renew the detention of a restoration specialist at the Egyptian Museum and others accused of stealing an ancient bracelet from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir for 15 days pending investigation.
Last week, the Ministry of Interior announced in an official statement that it has arrested those responsible for the disappearance of a gold bracelet dating back to the Late Period from a safe inside the restoration lab of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.
Investigations revealed that the theft was carried out by a museum restoration specialist on September 9, who managed to steal the artifact during her shift by using a distraction tactic.
She later contacted an acquaintance—a silver shop owner in Sayeda Zeinab—who helped sell the bracelet to a gold workshop owner for 180,000 EGP. The workshop owner then resold it to a gold foundry worker for 194,000 EGP, and the bracelet was melted down with other pieces to be reshaped.
The Ministry confirmed that all suspects were apprehended, confessed to the crime, and the sale proceeds were seized in their possession. Legal measures have been taken against them.
